Free security download

The internet is a public network. Our FREE security download provides you with a secure virtual private network (VPN), in partnership with Cisco, for when you get online in BT Wi-fi hotspots. This optional software creates a secure link between your device and the hotspot. You may want to use our VPN when transmitting personal data.

How to download and install your free Cisco VPN security software

IMPORTANT: this software can only be downloaded when you're in a BT Wi-fi hotspot. If you already have other VPN software installed, please do not install Cisco VPN security software.

Common questions

What is a virtual private network?

A Virtual Private Network (VPN) is a secure and private network within a public network, i.e. the internet. You can use the Cisco VPN security software in BT Wi-fi hotspots when you want extra online security. This software creates a 'secure tunnel' by encrypting your data when it's transmitted between your device and the hotspot - keeping your data secure.

Why would I want to use the Cisco VPN security software?

You may want the extra VPN security if you're transmitting sensitive information such as personal data or passwords. The software keeps your messages secure - ideal for online banking.

I already have my own VPN software. Do I still need the Cisco VPN security software?

No. Please don't use our free Cisco VPN security software if:

  • you're already using - or have installed - other VPN software
  • you've an earlier version of the Cisco VPN software
  • you use a VPN on your business laptop or device.
